A detailed guide to creating a Math-Net Page

Choice of Character Encoding

If you create a Math-Net Page you have to choose the desired character encoding: The default option is "as is" (the corresponding button in the form has the name "asIs"). That means that the character encoding adjusted at your browser will be kept. Alternatively, you have the option to convert your character encoding to UTF-8 encoding. More information can be found here.

The input data

Form sheets
The next step is to fill in an input form. The data asked for are divided in four parts: Data of the information coordinator

Each institution taking part in the Math-Net Initiative is required to designate an information coordinator. She/he is the contact person for all Math-Net activities of the institution. Particularly, the information coordinator (in collaboration with the local system administrator) is responsible for the local information offered by the institution.
Most input fields in this part are mandatory:
  • the name,
  • the e-mail address,
  • the phone number.
Title, the fax number and the URL of the professional homepage are optional.

General data of the institution

General data include: name of the university and name of the institution and the corresponding URLs of the homepages, the postal address and, if existing, a logo. Moreover, it is possible to insert access to a local search engine on this section. Please, have a look at the remark.

Further data

Further data are the country code and the Math-Net region (if established). Country or region-specific services are part of Math-Net Services. These services appearing on the left margin column (Block I) of the Math-Net Page can be added to international Math-Net Services here.
Some images e.g. the Math-Net logo are used on the Math-Net Page. The default URL is
http://www.math-net.org/images/
It is also possible to install the images locally. If you want to install the images locally please insert the directory of the images in the corresponding field, see also here.

Local Links

The local links are the core of the Math-Net Page. The groups and subgroups contain the links to the contents described in detail above.
Moreover, the Math-Net Page allows links to further local Math-Net Pages, e.g., in other languages.

Generating Math-Net Page(s) Page(s)

Please start your Web browser for generating your Math-Net Page(s). The Math-Net Page Maker is available at http://www.math-net.org/pagemaker
It is planned to install the Math-Net Page Maker on more servers.

Download Math-Net Page(s)

After you have generated a Math-Net Page, there are several options to download this page to your local host.
  • You can download the generated Math-Net Page by ftp:
Use first the button "Prepare for Download". Your page will be stored at
    ftp://ftp.zib.de/pub/Math-Net/Math-Net_Pages
as an html-file named by the e-mail address of the information coordinator followed by a time stamp.
  • Download by the corresponding facility of your browser:
Use first the button "Prepare for Download" and then the "Save as" command of your browser. Please make sure that you save only the html page. If you save the complete page (including the images) then some confusion may arise with the location of the images.
  • Alternatively the Math-Net Page can be requested per e-mail to the adddress of the local information coordinator. Therefore this address is a mandatory entry in the Math-Net Page Maker.

The last step is to install the Math-Net Page(s) at the local server, see the section "Installation of the MNP".

Downloading of the images

It is possible to download the images and store these locally. The default address for downloading the images is http://www.math-net.org/images_MathNetPage/images_MathNetPage.tar
If you want to use this option, you are requested to fill in the URL of the server where the images will be stored.
