Standard and Alternative Math-Net Pages
Identifiers
Identifiers are necessary for the automatic interpretation of electronic
documents by machines.
For the technically minded reader, the Math-Net Pages
use pseudo-verbal terms as identifiers: e.g., <aboutUs> for the subgroup
"About us". The identifiers are not displayed by the browser, they can be found
in the page sources.
For the exact definition of the identifiers see the
Application
Profile for the Math-Net Page.
Labels
Labels are the names of the groups and subgroups made visible by the
browsers.
Standard and Alternative Labels of Groups and Subgroups, Language Issues
Table 1
contains names for the groups and subgroups
that are meant to be "widely understood English". Thus, they are called "standard labels".
But, it became clear soon that the names chosen are not interpreted in exactly the same way in
all parts of the world. Therefore, the
Math-Net Page Maker offers the option to
modify standard labels to serve the local community in a better way. Such modifications are
called "alternative labels". Of
course, the option of generating alternative labels provides the opportunity to
create labels in the language(s) used locally. It is, however, suggested that
every institution creating a Math-Net Page with alternative labels also
maintains a Math-Net Page with standard labels. It may in fact be useful if an
supplier in a multi-language environment, to offer the Math-Net Page in
several languages.
Definition of the Standard and the Alternative Math-Net Page
A "Standard Math-Net Page" is a Math-Net Page which contains only the English standard labels.
An "Alternative Math-Net Page" contains one or more alternative labels.
